I am using the Bennet theme on my WordPress website and I am experiencing an issue with editing portfolio items.
When I go to Portfolio → All Items and click on “Edit item”, I am redirected to the classic WordPress editor. I can modify the content there (text, images, etc.) and save the item correctly, but none of these changes are reflected on the frontend. I noticed that:
The portfolio items use the bennet_portfolio slug
There is no standard WordPress “Featured Image” available for portfolio items
Changes made in the classic editor seem to be ignored by the theme
The portfolio grid and single item layout appear to be generated by a theme-specific template or shortcode
At the moment, it is unclear:
Which fields are actually used by the theme to display portfolio items
Where images and descriptions for the portfolio grid should be edited
Whether the classic editor content is intentionally not used
Could you please clarify:
Where portfolio item images and texts should be edited correctly?
Which fields or theme options control the portfolio output?
Whether the classic editor is supported for portfolio items in Bennet, or if it is ignored by design?
when you edit the portfolio item you enter content as you would for a normal page (Gutenberg or Elementor or classic editor). And then the changes should show in the frontend in the individual portfolio page. Can you send us wp admin access to inspect the backend and see what is wrong?
you can change the 'bennet_portfolio' slug. go to customizer -> portfolio settings to change the custom slug. Just enter your own and after saving the changes go to Settings -> Permalinks and press 'Save' to refresh them.
In order to completely remove it you may want to use a plugin:
Portfolio items do not have a featured image they have a hero image which can be changed in in corresponding hero options. Do you see the portfolio item options?
Do you have a preference for the classic editor or you just want Gutenberg (the default editor)?
ok, now that I logged in it makes sense. you need to enable the Elementor editor in Elementor -> Settings for portfolio items. https://prnt.sc/oy0ne4bVxWe6
The Elementor editor takes precedence over the classic editor because the content was created with Elementor.
thank you for checking the backend, that clarifies everything.
So, just to confirm:
Now that I enable Portfolio items in Elementor → Settings, I can edit the entire single portfolio page using Elementor, without needing to use or modify the classic editor content at all. Is that correct?
Regarding the permalink / slug:
I will follow your suggestion and use the plugin you recommended to remove or adjust the portfolio base slug.
Please let me know if this is the correct and intended workflow.
Yes, see, when you start editing with Elementor a page, a portfolio item any other type that has an editor - Elementor is taking over and the other editors (classic or Gutenberg) are not suitable any more. That's Elementor :)
That's one thing. Second I see you already imported Elementor demo data therefore yes, it is the intended workflow
Well, I suggest replacing the permalink instead of using the plugin. Using third party plugins may have side effects. Not necessarily that it will, but may have.

Perfect, but about permalink
Is it right?
