It looks like that for the image galleries you are providing, the selected HERO image becomes the thumbnail in the VIEW ALL / OVERVIEW page of that gallery. Correct?
This makes the choice of image actually quite hard (since it has to work as full screen image as much as a small preview amongst many others)
Is there a way to upload an indipendant thumbnail image for the galleries? thank you
Yes, true you have to keep in mind that if you keep the point of interest close to the center usually you should be fine. We can implement with custom work a new option that is displayed only if wp_is_mobile() returns true.
if you find the fee too expensive we can provide guidance where and what to implement.
hello, thank you for your answer. Yes, it is not JUST a question of "center of focus"...but for a whole page of thumbnails the chosen image would be a bit more minimal to not look "cluttered" together will 20 more thumbnails - something I do not have to consider for the fullscreen hero header.
If you can provide guidance for how to implement this, than I can see if it is doable for me.
In any case, I would suggest this as an update of the theme for future versions :-.)
Hello! This is the code info " to add a new hero image on mobile" as you mentioned, correct? I actually asked for help with another area, but this will surely also come up when I start preparing the mobile version :-) So thank you for that code in any case, I will try to make it work when the time comes.
_________ I was asking about something different: Within the desktop version, when I upload the HERO image for a project, that same image gets used in a reduced size for the thumbnail of that project which gets displayed in the PORTFOLIO GRID pages for that project.
Is it possible to upload an independant thumbnail image instead of reducing the hero image to use as thumbnail?
Yes, it's similar. You can use a thumbnail image and display in portfolio pages as thumbnail. Both on desktop and mobile.
Same, you add an extra option in config file, give it another id. And then you select the thumbnail image in portfolio templates. if you tell me exactly the portfolio template I can tell you where to modify.
The issue here, though, is that when you go from a portfolio item to the portfolio page there is a thumb-to-full screen efefct that relies precisely on that: the thumbnail image is the same as hero image displayed in the portfolio page.
Oh, yes I understand. And the "thumb-to-full screen effect" is really nice too; I will have a good think if I really would want to loose/ disable that !!
I am using the PORTFOLIO SHOWCASE GRID Template (is this what you asked for?) Thanky uo so much for your guidance and suggestions !
Hello Sandra, if you want to use the portfolio grid . Then you need to modify /sections/portfolio_section_item.php - path relative to root theme folder. you want to replace line 50, or, to be more precise, the path to the hero image (it should be the image thumbnail)

Hello Sandra, to add a new hero image on mobile
open /include/metabox-config.php (path relative to root theme folder) then duplicate the settings for hero image (page and portfolio item)
https://prnt.sc/NqL7bEMm_zpQ
and rename it to something else for example nanotech-opt-page-mobile-hero-img
the in /include/hero-properties.php use wp_is_mobile() function as discriminator:
if( wp_is_mobile() ){
$this->image = nanotech_get_post_meta( NANOTECH_THEME_OPTIONS, $this->post_id, 'nanotech-opt-page-hero-img' );
}
else {
$this->image = nanotech_get_post_meta( NANOTECH_THEME_OPTIONS, $this->post_id, 'nanotech-opt-page-mobile-hero-img' );
}
Thank you.

you can get the thumbnail image with a line like
$nanotech_thumb_img = nanotech_get_post_meta( NANOTECH_THEME_OPTIONS, $nanotech_portfolio_item->post_id, 'nanotech-opt-portfolio-hero-img-thumb' );
Thank you.
