unfortunately this is custom work to function exactly the way you want it to. You need to extensively modify the plugin's implementation. What you can do is actually take html output of the shortcode from the page source (right click in browser -> inspect -> view page source) and the modify it by adding the links to it. Paste back the modified HTML modified source to the portfolio or page content.

I'd like to know if it'd be possible to display portofolio items using the scrolling panels shortcode somehow? Tweaking the core plugin I suppose?
If not, at least being able to add a link to images would be super useful.
