I'm trying to design my site to closely mimic the demo version with the same slider, customised text linking to other pages displaying the linked content. I also want a basic menu linking to other static pages with important information on, very similar to the demo but I'm struggling to work out how to do it as I'm not a web designer by any means!
I have imported the demo version as described in the general information support section but I'm finding it hard to understand how to make the changes I want to make.
I’m able to get the demo files up and looking like the site on the demo example but I can’t figure out how to put the images on the slider, change the slider text etc. I’m sorry if this is a really basic thing, I’m just not that knowledgeable about this stuff
First off, I want to change my front page so I can have my own images for the slider, replacing the "Sheeran" etc text with my own which, when clicked, will link to another page with all the relevent info on there I need but this is what I'm getting. When I go to "Edit Page" there is nothing in the editor and I can't figure out how to do this for the life of me!
Editing the theme is fairly easy: you have the portfolio items (under admin -> portfolio) and normal pages with options and content. The most important portfolio options are the hero image and hero captions (title and subtitles). The content can be edited as for normal pages, nothing special about it.
When you change the hero image and captions in portfolio item options it is automatically reflected in the slider (as the slider template enumerates all portfolio items and displays hero image, title and subtitle). That's why the home page (slider) does not have any content - because i does not have to.
Thanks, that's been really helpful! I've now got my portfolio items with captions, how can I put them in the correct order and have the the buttons to navigate them to where I want them to point? On the demo there is a red circle when you hover over the portfolio title which, when clicked expands the page for further info. I'd like to mimic that, does that make sense?
okay so… you be had a web design company working on the site and they’re encountering problems with the changes they’re making not being saved. I’m not sure if it’s a problem with them, the theme or my web host. Thinking ahead to when it’s finally up and running and I want to make updates myself, if I install wpbakery, do you know if that changes the existing page editor to drag and drop? What I mean is would all the existing elements change to the drag and drop style elements or would it stay in the current style and I’d have to work with both? Does that make sense?
Depends if the prev team was using Gutenberg or WPBakery to edit the content. Gutenberg does not understand the content built with WP Bakery and the other way around. Because each editor is actually utilizing a set of special keywords to define sections, rows etc So each displays the content of the other as plain text (at least, most of it)
Saving the changes should work though. If they don't, there is a problem with the installation, database does not stores the modifs or does not even get there.
It's worth checking the console log for errors when you save the modfis.
All I want to do is have the sliders, when clicked, link to the correspond pages so for example, a slider on the homepage saying “what we do,” when clicked will link to the page in the menu about “what we do” I presume this is possible?
If SI can someone walk me through how to achieve this in the simplest terms possible, imagine you’re talking to a child ha!
not to worry. By default all the slides open to portfolio project pages. See, all the slides are actually portfolio items defined in the system under admin -> portfolio.
So you can add the portfolio projects URLs to the menu and then you will have them as slides too
in this context 'What we do' is actually a portfolio item

To change the portfolio items order: either you backdate the portfolio items

or you can use post reorder plugin such as this one:

The portfolio slides or thumbnails always link to the individual portfolio item pages
For example, Sheeran will link to http://clapat-themes.com/wordpress/rayden/rayden_portfolio/sheeran/
and you cannot change this
