I'd like to remove bauman_portfolio from the URL of the portfolio. I tried to do search and replace of in all .php files for 'bauman_portfolio' (with the quotes) and it kind of works but my posts now have comments disabled appear and the layout is broken. The full-screen featured image is gone.
You can go to customizer -> portfolio settings to change the custom slug. Just enter your own and after saving the changes go to Settings -> Permalinks and press 'Save' to refresh them.
In order to completely remove it you may want to use a plugin:

I had to rename single-bauman_portfolio.php to just single-portfolio.php for the theme to use the template.
Works like charm now.
Friendly Advice: use just 'portfolio' for for post type. Most people don't want to have their theme name in the URL.
