The problem is I want to create three type of Portfolio items, the first type will ONLY show up on Showcase page/template, the second set of Portfolio items will ONLY show on the Carousel page/template and do NOT show up on Showcase nor on Portfolio, and finally a third of set of Portfolio Items that ONLY SHOW UP on the Portfolio Page/template, they DO NOT show up on Showcase or Carousel, so how can the webmaster do this???
If I understand your question correctly, why don't you group your portfolio items in categories and the specify the category slug in page options - for each of the portfolio layout you want to have?
I believe you understood my question correctly and I have thought about this approach, however if I create specific categories just to triage three sets of Portfolio Items along three distinct template assigned pages to Showcase, Carousel and Portfolio Grid, what happens is I will have these extra categories show up on the blog side panel.

the portfolio categories and the blog categories are separate taxonomies (also the portfolio category is custom taxonomy)
