What we can do however is actually adding a new field in portfolio item options as custom url so that the slide from the home page will open to a different page than the default portfolio item page.
And that can be a carousel.

I think this is a flaw with the theme and there is no flexibility in using the theme? This way I can't use any of the theme pages as internal pages ! I will remain limited to the few pages of portfolio in the design of the pages !

I will not argue with you. Ask for a refund, if you don't like it. This is a minimal theme.
