I am having issues with the full page slider when setting up portfolios.
Sometimes they work just fine but often only a blank screen loads. I can usually give it a second try and it will then load that gallery but I don't want clients trying to work that out.
I have the latest version of the theme so the bxslider file is up to date and some of the front images are near 100kb so not very big files.
I'm looking at it on Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Finding the issue consistent at my end, usually have to go back and click a portfolio a second time but only for the full page portfolios.
If you can't spot anything I might check into an internet cafe and see if it's my connection though everything else is working great.
Another thought for me would be to use the "image pop up" option for the portfolio. If I did use that can 1. set it to auto play and 2 have image description show as well.
Custom work, can I do it myself. At least for auto play.
The full page sliders are erratic for me and others mainly in Chrome though still sometimes in Firefox and Safari. Opening just a white screen on first click.
Can I get a solution please. The portfolio is still erratic on multiple browsers on a variety of computers.
Sometimes it is not immediately obvious while other times it just gives me white screen right away. But usually if the site sits open for several minutes then I go to a gallery the first attempt will give me the white screen. Sometimes a flicker first as if an image tries to load but doesn't.
I really need the galleries working correctly all of the time before I can send clients to the site.
No solution at this point. I have added in an apology note and a request to reload for visitors. I will add the custom css here for others who are experiencing the same issue until a solution is found.
Here is the code to do that. The code you would add to the custom css in the Theme Options styling options.
Obviously anyone who uses this code will need to replace my image with their own as mine has my business logo in it.
I will add that the non loading issue happens a lot less if a visitor hits the gallery right away though it does still happen. If you visit the site then wait for a few minutes or look around at everything else on the site first then it is almost guaranteed the gallery won't load on first go.
Thanks for this Chris. It is true for me as well that the loading works intermittantly, probably why support did not follow up with you if it looked ok when they loaded it. Really need a fix for this as I am making the site for a client. I will let you know if I find a solution.
I know what it is like to get inundated with questions myself but I would like a solution.
I am not proficient with code so this may sound dumb but would adding the initialisation query code twice solve it.?
Another thing I have found maybe worth pointing out is that while I have the notice asking people to go back to galleries and reload if no start that by making the background black it blinks as the images are transitioning in the background (even though you cannot see them). At least it is an indicator to the viewer that there is an issue rather than not knowing how long to wait.
I have also asked at wordpress.org both in the main help section where I was told my question was not appropriate and on the bx.slider plugin help (figuring they may have some idea even though they are separate) but no response as yet.
I will let you know if I hear of a solution first.
We are a week later since my last post and still no reply.
I'm nearly done putting the site together and ready to do a promotion but I cannot do that until the galleries are working consistently.
They may work on a super fast server but for most people there is an issue where the gallery loading is erratic. If that happens while people are viewing the site they will shut off the site. People get very impatient when viewing the web.
I don't mind the popup except the styling is completely incongruent with the rest of the site. I don't want someone else to restyle it but I would like to know how and where to do that myself.
I was hoping to contact the guys that make the bxslider code but there does not appear to be a contact option.
I was able to put in a fix that gives a better UI... it still misbehaves on first load but is not as noticable. Click on "Our Work" at
http://imagestudio.co and you will see the images stack up on the first item clicked, but if you click on another item the slider will work as it should.
I changed opacity from 0 to 1 on line 200 in style.css:
So far looking very good Leanne. I will report back in a couple of days but if it works as consistently as it has the last little bit then you may have solved it.
Btw i'm hosting with Yahoo. Who are you with? If the issue does resurface and it is a hosting issue might as well make that public knowledge.
It has definitely fixed the problem. Because I replaced the white screen with a black one with my logo on it I changed the opacity to 0.4 in your code and tried that and a couple of times where the gallery would normally appear to not have loaded it did load but with the black screen and logo partly transparent over the top.
So setting it to 1 again of course makes that screen not visible.
I have replaced the apology slide with just a simple black slide with the logo on as your code works so well. You can see it working for me here http://chrisfawkes.net/photographer/

Hi,
We have tested your website and the full screen expander works fine. Could you please give us more details about your issue? What browser you use?
Thanks
Thank you.

Hi Chris,
This requires custom work to have the autoplay and image description. On our tests the site looks fine.
Thanks
Thank you.

Hi Chris,
It's hard to debug and pinpoint the exact issue since it is behaving on some hosts and intermittently.
We are working to improve the expander, however I cannot give an exact timeline for when it's going to be released.
Best advice is to optimize as mush as possible the images and or use portfolio galleries (pop up) or external fullslider.
We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage you to share any solutions you may find.
Thanks
Thank you.

Any update at your end?
Working on a new theme (with a new loader - which we plan to integrate in newave as well)
Reminds me: are there any errors in the web server logs? (if you can check them)
When you expand the portfolio
Thanks
Thank you.

I would advise also to try changing the host but I know it may not be easy for you to move things around...
