Where do you try to insert it in the first place?
Regarding your second question:
you can replace any of the images from /images/social_icons with a whatsapp icon and then use it in the carousel.

it looks like you need to update the fontawesome icons to 4.7.0
https://fontawesome.com/v4.7.0/icons/
if you can provide FTP access and WP admin access we can update it for you.
Regarding the whatsapp icon:
if you are not using, in your example, facebook, just overwrite facebook.png and facebook_white.png
