Is there a way to add a full width header image to an external page, i.e. not a section?
No problems adding this to the main single page, but I'd like to add the same effect to a few standalone pages, each showing a different (header) background image.

yes try adding the html code inside of the page content:
of the parallax section

and the header section
http://clapat-themes.com/wordpress/newave/newave_portfolio/newave/
If you inspect the page you can copy the html code for each section
