I have set my home page as thumb scroller portfolio page and inserted all my portfolio categories in the gallery link as in your original legrand set-up. But they don't work.
When there is no item under a certain category, the link opens as an empty portfolio page (like the "things" or "transport" categories on my website). But if there is any portfolio item tagged under that certain category (like the "food" or "people" category on my website), it opens the main blog page when clicked.
Ok, you need to replace the menu links from category links to actual pages links.
For example instead of 'Food' category link you create a page named Food for example and set the template to one of the gallery templates (for example Gallery Contain)
then in its page options set Gallery Templates -> Show Items from to food which represents the slug of Food category.
