1. Only self hosted videos for video slides. you can embed vimeo or youtube in portfolio or regular pages content.
2. You only need the raw html if you are using AJAX loading for showcase slides otherwise you don't
The purpose of the raw html is to add inline row CSS styles which are not loaded because Visual Composer does some background work when the page is loaded through WordPress.
I think you should modify the raw html imported because the styles may change as soon you modify the rows (again some of the Visual Composer inner workings)
